Kaffee und Kuchen
“Kaffee und Kuchen”
This painting was inspired by the months I spent living in Germany in 2020. My husband is German, and I was fascinated by the tradition of stopping everything in the afternoon for coffee and cake. Not as a special occasion. Just because it is that time of day.
I loved how normal it was to sit down, pour a cup, cut a slice, and take a real pause. No to-do lists. No emails. Just cake in the middle of the day. I kept thinking about how comforting that rhythm was and how different it felt from the pace I was used to.
So I painted a table full of that energy. Coffee already poured. Cake half sliced. Candles and champagne glasses just for fun. Some flowers. Some mess. A table that is not perfect but feels full and warm.
This piece is about softness and rituals and slowing down. About giving time to sweetness even when there is no reason.
