I painted this pack of cigarettes as the weekly prompt of an Instagram art challenge that I created. The principle was to draw a prompt from a jar full of prewritten painting ideas, paint it and post it for people to create something from the same prompt. The first week I drew “a pack of cigarettes”. I was not inspired at first, but after browsing throught pictures of cigarettes, I saw a Marlboro pack and decided to rebrand it as Mal de vivre, which is a French expression that describes a deep, often vague feeling of sadness, discomfort, or unease about life.
